Unit title:          Recovering from the Death of a Loved One

Credit value:     3 credits 

Description:       This unit offers a guide to coping with grief through understanding its stages and the generation of positive, healing emotions. The different types of loss are discussed together with the particular ways in which grief can differ in each type of loss (e.g. spouse, parent, child, accident, suicide, murder). Ideas are given for  working through grief using writing, counseling and help from family and friends, and some practical matters are also considered. The text is easy to understand for the general reader and no prior knowledge of psychology or counseling is required.  This unit will be of interest to students of religion, counseling, psychotherapy, social studies, stress management, thanatology, and to all helping professionals.
