Description: This unit is a study of the landmark text by pioneering thanatologist Elisabeth Kubler- Ross, Death, the Final Stage of Growth. Essentially the book is a search for the meaning of life and death and encourages us to be aware of our emotional reactions to death and how they relate to how we live our lives. Offering a cross-cultural perspective on life’s grand questions, the text explores Dr Kubler-Ross’s own experiences, the organizational context of death, first-person accounts by the dying, different religious and cultural approaches, special chapters on Jewish and Hindu teachings, serving the terminally ill, funerals and mourning, and the religious or philosophical life of the dying person.
