Unit title: Sex
and Gender Diversity
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit addresses the assertion that “sex, gender and sexuality are fluid concepts” and that there are many people whose sense of self does not fit the polarities male/female or straight/gay. Combining history, social studies, biology, psychology, lesbian/gay studies and women’s studies, the unit goes beyond all of these disciplines into the territory of androgyny and being without sex or gender, whilst providing all the essential information for people new to this field of study. The unit is aimed at the helping professions plus those interested in human behaviour, human rights, personal development, sexology, social studies, minority studies, policy making and diversity studies.
