Ley lines and Spirit Travel

Description: This unit delves into the enigma of “ley lines”, ancient straight tracks and alignments of monuments. It looks at the history of the concept of the ley line, the pioneering work of Alfred Watkins, and earth markings in Europe and the Americas. The universal practices of shamanism are considered in order to provide clues to the purpose of the ley phenomenon, and the connections between sacred tracks and the spirit world are explained. Finally a solution to the mystery is advanced: that straight lines connecting sacred features of the landscape are related to the practice of out-of-the-body travel, often assisted in shamanic cultures by hallucinogenic plants. The set text is by the noted expert on leys and ancient sites, Paul Devereux.
