Unit number: SMC
201
Unit title: Soul
Retrieval
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: Soul loss is a spiritual illness – a shamanic concept of injury to the deepest part of the self, resulting in illness or lost energy. Soul retrieval, in classical shamanic practice, is a process whereby the shaman “journeys” (goes into an altered state) on behalf of the client and facilitates the return of the client’s lost energy. Whilst doing this, the shaman may intuitively or psychically see or sense the nature of the trauma causing soul loss, and the nature of the “gifts” or positive qualities that the client is empowered with when the lost energy is restored. This unit studies a modern interpretation of the core shamanic work of soul retrieval. The unit also encourages the student to appreciate this practice alongside contemporary psychological and psychotherapeutic knowledge.
