Unit title: Introduction
to Islam
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit provides an academic introduction to the religion of Islam and Muslim society and history, which will help non-Muslims who wish to understand current events involving Islam, and take a more informed part in debate and dialogue concerning Islam’s relationship with the non-Muslim world. The unit explores topics such as the different religious divisions within Islam, the nature of the Quran, the importance of the Shar’ia in Islam, the concept of Jihad, the role of women in Islam, and the adaptation of Islam to the modern world.
