Unit number: REG
356
Unit title: The
Holocaust and Reincarnation
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: Interest in reincarnation has become very popular and includes past life hypnosis, non-hypnotic regression techniques, studies of spontaneous memories of past lives, attempts to prove the accuracy of some past-life memories, and scholarly books on karma and its philosophy. This course offers a unique perspective on past lives: it studies the accounts of people who claim memories of past lives during the Holocaust, against the background of Jewish understanding of reincarnation and karma and the insights of Jewish philosophy, mysticism and tradition in which support for the concept of reincarnation can be found. These Jewish teachings are compared with similar traditional wisdom from around the world. The course also offers an opportunity to contemplate the meaning of the Holocaust today for all peoples of the world.
Key textbook: Gershom, Rabbi Yonassan. Beyond the Ashes: Cases of Reincarnation from the Holocaust. Virginia Beach, Virginia: A.R.E. Press, 1992.
