Unit number: REG
349
Unit title: Releasing
Attachments with Hypnosis
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: Spirit possession is a phenomenon described throughout history but not recognized by the science of psychology. What happens when a clinical psychologist becomes interested in the phenomenon of possession and how it might account for psychological symptoms that are resistant to conventional approaches? This unit is based on the work of one psychologist who was brave enough to publish how, using hypnosis as a tool to reach other states of consciousness, she worked with patients to release the attaching entities which were causing problems. As the set text author, Dr Edith Fiore, points out, “…many professionals and nonprofessionals, like metaphysical and Spiritualist ministers, as well as psychics, mediums and shamans, have been using variations of these techniques for decades, hundreds, even thousands of years.” The unit presents transcripts of case studies as well as background material on the theory of spirit possession and information on how to carry out a basic depossession and how to detect, release and protect one’s home from spirits.
Key textbook: Fiore, Dr Edith. The Unquiet Dead: A Psychologist Treats Spirit Possession. New York, Ballantine Books, 1987.
