Description: “Emotional Intelligence”, popularized by Daniel Goleman, is the ability to understand, express, manage and work positively with emotions, for our own good and the good of those around us. This unit studies Goleman’s seminal work; additional readings are recommended. The set text looks at the brain and emotion; the concept of emotional intelligence; how emotions can make a difference in our lives; how we learn emotional habits; and the consequences of not having emotional intelligence. The implications of the need for emotional intelligence for education and society are discussed.
