Unit number:     PSY 281

Unit title:           The Inner Image

Credit value:      3 credits

Description:        This unit is a fascinating integration of the application of imagery techniques with the psychology of Jungian personality type.  (Though an introduction to Jungian typology is given, this unit will be of most benefit to those who have some prior knowledge of the 16 personality types).  Each of Jung’s four cognitive functions, sensing, intuition, thinking and feeling, can be stimulated through imagery, providing a symbolic language that helps a person to explore aspects of his/her personality.  The set text contains material on the 16 types and different approaches to imagery, and presents a technique of spontaneous imagery to evoke symbols of the four functions. Case studies demonstrate the insight that such imagery work can give and how it might be applied in everyday life to gain access to the strengths of our hidden functions.

Key textbook:    Yabroff, William. The Inner Image: A Resource for Type Development. Palo Alto, CA. Consulting Psychologists Press, 1990.
