Unit number: PAR 323
Unit title: Shadow Matter and Psychic Phenomena
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit presents a new theory that uses the concept of shadow matter from physics to explain various aspects of the paranormal. The theory posits that every physical entity has a shadow matter counterpart and that there is a large amount of free shadow matter in the universe. Can a “shadow matter” body be the equivalent of the concept called by many the “astral body” or “spirit”? Phenomena to be examined in the light of this approach include our of body experiences, altered states of consciousness, psychic communication, apparitions, synchronicity, and survival after death. The unit also presents a brief explanation of the role of shadow matter in astrophysics and cosmology, as well as comments on how shadow matter is related to concepts used by occultists. The unit uses a text that is aimed at the general reader and that does not presuppose any knowledge of physics or mathematics.
Key textbook: Wasserman, Gerhard D., Shadow Matter and Psychic Phenomena: A scientific investigation into psychic phenomena and possible survival of the human personality after bodily death. Oxford, UK: Mandrake of Oxford, 1993.
