Unit title: Organisational
Behaviour (Organizational Behaviour)
Credit value: 12 credits (For occasional study purposes this block is regarded as four complete units and should be paid for accordingly. All four units in this block must be taken together)
Description: These units are to be taken as one block and provide a comprehensive and up-to-date grounding in organizational behavior (the psychology of individuals and groups in organizations). This set of units is provided to fit into various degree plans, either undergraduate or postgraduate, depending on the particular syllabus and whenever a substantial course in organizational behavior is required. This set of units may also be used as part of certain diploma courses.
The set text makes use of topical real-life examples of management problems and strategies and is organized around a diagnostic approach to problems and change. Students will learn how to use the diagnostic approach in a variety of situations. Studies of dot-com enterprises are integrated into the course to provide knowledge of this growing sector of commerce. The major topics in this unit consist of: individuals in organizations, differences in the workforce; motivation; decision-making; groups and teams; communication; power, conflict and stress; intergroup behavior and negotiations; the organizational culture; structure of top-performing companies; factors in organizational structure; and managing change.
