Your Career in Music
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit is for musical artists and students of all musical genres and also for those advising, coaching or starting to manage a budding musician. Expert advice is given on all aspects of career advancement and balancing the performance and business sides of being a musician. Detailed instructions are given on subjects such as how to promote yourself, creating opportunities for performance and reviving a flagging career. The recording industry is demystified. Advice is also given on raising funds, finding day jobs and managing the insecure aspects of the profession. Tips are given on budgeting and setting goals. This is a very practical and useful unit for musicians at all stages of their careers. Some information, e.g. tax and legal issues, is US based but will give you useful ideas if you live outside the US.
