Unit title: The
Stirring of Soul in the Workplace
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit concerns putting the soul back into organizational development. Argued from a multidisciplinary perspective, the thesis of the set text is that the modern organization has taken over our bodies, minds and souls. The goal of enlightened change management therefore is not how to change people but how to change the organization so that it facilitates personal and human values. Drawing on psychology, physics, literature and philosophy as well as management, this study probes the nature of “soul” in the corporate environment as well as the wounded “soul” of the society in which we live. As Briskin concludes, “The concept of anima mundi, that soul is alive in the world, has a very down-to-earth implication for organizations and for all of us who live and work in them.”
