Unit number: HYP
343
Unit title: Analytical
Hypnotherapy I
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit provides a well-rounded and eclectic course in psychoanalytic psychology specifically aimed a the hypnotherapist who uses or wishes to use analytical techniques. This unit is meant to accompany HYP 344 which covers the use of analytical hypnotherapy in practice. The current unit draws from Freudian, Jungian, Adlerian and more modern approaches including Ego-State Therapy, Object-Relations Psychology, Existential Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive Therapy. Each of these approaches is outlined. The following key topics are also covered: memory, defenses, resistance, transference/countertransference, dreams and imagery, theories of the structure of personality, and personality development. A particular strength of the material studied for this unit is the integration of each theoretical block of knowledge with key points that can assist client profiling. Each chapter of the key text contains a set of questions that will enable the student to consider the relevance of what has been studied when carrying out an intake interview, reviewing a session or when formulating therapeutic questions during a session. In this way the course content is brought alive and made part of the therapist’s awareness and repertoire.
Prerequisities: Some previous knowledge of hypnosis or hypnotherapy.
Key textbook: Morison, Jacqueline. Analytical Hypnotherapy Volume 1: Theoretical Principles. Crown House Publishing, 2001.
Comments:
This unit is not in itself a training or qualification in hypnotherapy.
Amendments may be made to the details and provision of units at any time.
