Unit number: HYP
326
Unit title: Hypnotherapy
and the Female Body Image
(changed course title)
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: Many women hate their body image or wish to change their bodies through drastic dieting or plastic surgery. Imagination, in the form of distorted perception or thinking due to social pressure, is involved in the genesis of body-image problems. Imagination, used to reconnect with the self and to heal body-related conflicts, can be a key to balance and self-acceptance. This unit offers women a route to self-exploration of body image through guided imagery and self-therapy exercises, that can help self-acceptance, increase self-esteem and lead to a more realistic and healthy appraisal of and respect for one’s physical form. The exercises may be learned for self-therapy, and they will also be excellent additions to the repertoire of the counsellor, hypnotherapist, psychotherapist or NLP practitioner working with women’s issues, eating disorders and related problems.
Prerequisities: Some previous knowledge of hypnosis or hypnotherapy.
Key textbook: Hutchinson, Marcia Germaine. Transforming Body Image: Learning to Love the Body You Have. Freedom, CA: The Crossing Press (undated, publication date believed to be 2001.)
Comments:
This unit is not in itself a training or qualification in hypnotherapy.
Amendments may be made to the details and provision of units at any time.
