Unit title: Stage
Hypnotism
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit is a study of stage hypnotism based upon the work of renowned stage hypnotist and hypnotherapist Ormond McGill. The unit is offered for educational purposes only and is not a training in stage hypnosis. The study of stage hypnotism can illuminate many hypnotic phenomena used by the entertainer and therapist alike: inductions (especially rapid ones), selection of excellent hypnotic subjects, compliance, posthypnotic phenomena, convincing techniques, importance of debriefing and awakening, and various hypnotic “feats”. The hypnotherapist, armed with the knowledge in this book, will be much better able to field questions from about stage hypnosis from the public and those cautious about hypnotherapy because they know about stage hypnosis shows. Those clinical hypnotherapists who are trainers and presenters may find some of the general hypnosis techniques adaptable for group trainings. Also included in the set textbook are full instructions for the yoga nidra hypnotic meditation, and an appendix detailing a rapid induction and deepening process by Gil Boyne.
The unit also contains recommended reading on hypnosis risk management.
Prerequisities: Some previous knowledge of hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

This unit is not in itself a training or qualification in stage hypnosis. It is presented for educational purposes only including the education of clinical hypnotherapists.
Stage hypnosis is a controversial subject and to encourage both ethical standards and debate, the unit contains recommended reading on hypnosis risk management.
