Unit title: Hypnosis
in Sports Psychology
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit is for hypnotherapists and other professionals who wish to use hypnosis to improve athletic performance, including hypnotherapists seeking to expand their practice. The key text is written by a clinical psychologist and a professor in behavioural sciences, both familiar with the needs of sports players. Topics include an introduction to the field of clinical sports psychology, a model of using hypnotic skills using brief strategic and Ericksonian interventions, assessment of the athlete and induction considerations, ways to use hypnosis in sports applications, transcripts of actual cases, hypnosis with teams, and practice marketing considerations.
Prerequisities: The student should normally be a qualified hypnotist or hypnotherapist or be another helping professional or sports coach who uses hypnosis. Previous study of Ericksonian techniques will be an advantage. This unit may also be taken for self-development purposes.
