Unit number: HYP 264
Unit title: Producing Deep Trance Phenomena
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This highly practical unit focuses on the nature and techniques of inducing hypnotic trance. The unit may be taken as a primer for those interested in studying hypnotherapy further, or as a professional development course for the qualified hypnotherapist. Authoritarian and Indirect (“Permissive”) approaches are presented with recommendations as to how they can be integrated in actual practice. Three styles of induction are detailed and compared: Elman, Estabrooks and Erickson. Ideomotor signals are explained. The material is presented throughout in clear language with sample scripts. This unit would be very useful to take before a more detailed study of Erickson’s or Elman’s techniques and writings.
Prerequisite: A basic grounding in hypnotherapeutic inductions and techniques.
Key textbook: James, Tad, et al. Hypnosis – A Comprehensive Guide: Producing deep trance phenomena. Carmarthen, Wales, UK: Crown House Publishing Ltd., 2000.
Comments:
This unit is not in itself a training or qualification in hypnotherapy.
Amendments may be made to the details and provision of units at any time.
