Unit number: HYP 226
Unit title: Art
of Hypnotic Induction
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit is a study of the art of hypnotherapeutic induction, aimed at the hypnotherapist in training and also the experienced practitioner who wishes to review and understand more deeply the process of induction and revise knowledge of the different kinds of induction that may be used. Older practitioners seeking to move from authoritarian to neo-Ericksonian techniques will find the unit particularly useful. An explanation of the process of hypnotherapy is given, and various inductions (Ericksonian and other) are presented with script examples. Types of induction covered are: conversational, embedded, confusional, directive, and inductions for children, with several examples in each class. A glossary is provided to aid the student. The textbook will make a useful quick-reference book for clinicians, and is of particular interest for its focus on treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, chronic pain and various health/mental health issues.
Key textbook: Gafner, George and Benson, Sonja. Handbook of Hypnotic Inductions. New York & London. W.W. Norton & Co., 2000.
Comments:
This unit is not in itself a training or qualification in hypnotherapy.
