Unit title: Intensive Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit, based upon pioneering research, outlines methods of working psychodynamically within a brief timespan with psychoneurotically disturbed clients and clients who have a fragile character structure. These therapeutic methods include techniques for questioning, probing, challenging and working with resistance that can be studied beneficially by therapists and counsellors of any persuasion. Much of the information focuses on the tactics clients use to avoid feeling. Extensive use is made of case histories and transcripts.
Prerequisite: Experience of the use of counselling and psychotherapy skills. Experience of the use of psychodynamic techniques preferred.
