Unit number: COU 425
Unit title: Zen Therapy
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit provides an opportunity to study a modern Buddhist perspective on psychotherapy, drawing from the work of psychotherapist and Buddhist practitioner David Brazier. Buddhism has been formulating its own psychology for over two millennia, with the aim of alleviating personal suffering. The set text presents an accessible view of Buddhist psychology and mental conditioning, and shows how Zen may be considered as a therapy, bringing together the wisdom of East and West in a new, compassionate vision.
Key textbook: Brazier, D.J. Zen Therapy. London: Constable, 1995. Published in paperback by Robinson, 2001.
