Unit title: Counselling
in the Workplace
Credit value: 3 credits
Description: This unit forms a practically-based overview of the role that employee counseling services, whether formal or informal, provide within the organization. The student will learn about the following competencies: assess counseling needs and set up services; decide upon strategies that are suitable for the organization; deal with the range of personal and social problems that emerge amongst employees, and know how and when to refer to professionals; use counseling skills whilst coaching and mentoring for career and professional development; and develop training programmes for counseling within the organization.
