Parenting

Description: “Honour thy father and thy mother” says the Biblical commandment – but perhaps the world would be a better place had there been an extra commandment to “Honour thy sons and thy daughters.” Only gradually has society broken the taboo on admitting the widespread incidence of emotional, mental and physical abuse of and cruelty to children. When such acts are committed by parents, it is called “toxic parenting.” This unit looks at five types of abuse – inadequacy, overcontrolling, alcohol-related abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse and sexual abuse – the effects on the younger generation, and how they can reclaim their lives and regain their self-esteem. Numerous case histories are provided.
