Description:
This course uses one of the best-known textbooks/ reference books for the trainee student of counselling and psychotherapy, “Introduction to Psychotherapy” by Bateman, Brown and Pedder. It focuses on psychodynamic principles and practice but draws from the rich diversity of the psychodynamic tradition. Topics include psychodynamic principles, unconscious processes, therapeutic relationships, elements/levels of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis/analytic psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, family/couple therapy, social therapy, newer therapies (including gestalt, psychosynthesis, co-counselling, transactional analysis), selection for therapy, outcome and research.
