security statementData Protection regulations Calamus Extension College Limited is registered in the UK with the Information Commissioner and is subject to United Kingdom data protection regulations. Disposal of confidential waste Paper waste containing any personal data is disposed of securely. Website security Our website hosts use fail-safe data redundant storage technology to guarantee data availability, and multiple security measures including 24/7 monitoring. For routine operations, email which is not digitally signed and not encrypted is used. Users should be aware that email is not secure and can potentially be read by other parties. Sensitive information including credit card details should never be sent by email (we never ask for credit card details). Users should be aware of the existence of email scams asking people to enter their bank details, passwords etc. - we will never ask you to do this. Firewall The in-house computers used to interact with the website host are firewall-protected. Mailing lists We do not sell or buy mailing lists. Credit card processing We never request credit card details and do not hold any such details ourselves. At the moment we only process credit card payments via PayPal which has its own security procedures. Release of information We will not release your details to third parties without your permission. If someone (e.g. an employer) asks to verify your award details, we will contact you first to ask your permission. If you are expecting such an enquiry to be made, please let us know. We refuse to give potential students the names or contact details of existing or past students, even though we are asked sometimes to do this. It would be against Data Protection regulations to supply this information. Cookies We do not use cookies at present. If our website intends to use cookies in the future, we will make an announcement here and elsewhere on our site. Anti-virus protection We use anti-virus software that is regularly updated. If you get an email containing a virus that appears to come from us, our address is probably being faked by a computer somewhere in the world. As thousands of people have our contact email addresses on their computers, and some of those computers will have virus, those viruses will “steal” our email addresses – and many others – as a fake address to spread the virus. Faked addresses constitute a world-wide problem with no easy solution. A faked address does not mean that we are sending out viruses. Newsletters Any electronic newsletters we issue will only be issued on an opt-in basis and subscribers will be free to end their subscriptions at any time.
