As the economic news world-wide continues to be less than wonderful, in September 2011 we decided to reinstate the "recession-busting" fee levels that we introduced about 18 months earlier. We are also making Calamus courses more affordable to even more people by lowering the minimum monthly payment to GBP (Pounds Sterling) 100.

Scope of this offer

This offer applies to all subjects/courses EXCEPT the following: Contemporary Voice, Oriental Medicine, AMD degree, South African History/South African Studies, Management, Homeopathy, Medical Herbalism, and any course or research programme requiring intensive and lengthy supervision. The offer does not apply to enrolments where a payment of a fee at a higher rate is in transit to us or has already been paid, or where modular payments have already commenced at a higher rate.

Fees for full payment at enrolment:

The typical fee for your entire degree course (Accelerated bachelor's, master's or Doctorate) for full payment at enrolment is now
GBP (Pounds Sterling) 995. This excludes textbooks. The fee of GBP 995 covers registration and tuition (also certification if the course is completed satisfactorily) for a period of up to 18 months. If more time is needed, additional fees will be charged.

Fees payable by monthly modular payments:

The typical monthly modular payment is now GBP (Pounds Sterling ) 100. The typical modular total fee for most courses has now been reduced to £1,250 (our lowest ever rate) payable as follows:

Initial payment at enrolment GBP 250 plus 10 monthly payments of GBP 100. (Total GBP 1,250).

The monthly payment scheme is not an "instalment scheme" - no debt is incurred as each payment is for a nominal period of one month's registration. Each payment is a separate transaction under the UK's distance trading rules, and subject to an individual "cooling-off" period of 7 days during which a refund can be requested if eligible. If the student decides to withdraw from the course, no further payment is charged and there is no debt to the College. After the 11 payments have been made, registration will be free up until the end of the 18-month registration period.

Monthly payments will be accepted by bank transfer, PayPal or Google Checkout only - no cheques or money orders.

Monthly payments are generally approved automatically for students in UK, Ireland, most Western European countries, USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand. If outside those countries, please enquire. We cannot offer the monthly payment scheme for India, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Africa or the Gulf states.

The monthly payment fees do not include textbooks.

Double degree programmes (e.g. Bachelor's plus Master's or Master's plus Doctorate)

We will continue to offer advantageous tuition fee savings for students wishing to enrol for two consecutive degrees at the same time. The cost will depend on the programme of study, the amount of previous credit being transferred, and the type of syllabus being offered. The fees and syllabus will be decided on a case by case basis. Monthly payments will be based upon the total fee indicated for the dual degree programme, but the monthly payment total will be higher than the fee for full payment at enrolment, as it is in the case of single degrees.

The Ph.D. degree - two study schemes now available

Ph.D. by research/dissertation only (or equivalent such as an unpublished manuscript) : GBP 995 for full payment at enrolment or modular payments of GBP 250 at enrolment plus 10 payments of GBP 100 per month (modular total GBP 1,250). Total registration period up to 18 months (may be extended thereafter for additional fee).

Ph.D. by taught courses plus dissertation: GBP 1,250 for full payment at enrolment or modular payments of GBP 350 at enrolment plus 10 monthly payments of GBP 110 (modular total GBP 1,450). Total registration period up to 24 months depending on subject and available transfer credit (may be extended thereafter for additional fee).

Textbooks extra as required.

Our Ph.D. was originally based on the European model of study by research and dissertation only, without taught courses.

In 2010 we made a link with an American institution allowing dual awards - in other words two awards for the same programme of study - for example a Ph.D. from Calamus International University plus a US "degree equivalence" diploma - also saying Ph.D. in the same field, attesting that the linked American institution regards the CIU degree as the equivalent to a US degree. The US "equivalence" award is entirely optional, but requires extra fees paid to the US institution after graduation from CIU. The US award can have the Apostille of the US Secretary of State affixed, for a free including notarisation and all appropriate official seals.

However in order to offer this CIU plus US dual certification, the Ph.D. needed to conform to a typical US schedule involving taught study plus a dissertation.

Under our new lower tuition fees initiative, we can only charge the lower fee for a shorter programme comprising research and dissertation only, without taught courses. That programme will lead to the Ph.D. degree from CIU, but without the option of dual American "equivalence" certification.

However, if you have ABD ("all but dissertation" ) status, or a portfolio of existing credits and completed courses that can be regarded as the equivalent of the taught course phase of a US degree, then CIU can allow credit for this and include the credit on your transcript. The result will be that, for the lower fee, you will still receive a transcript suitable for obtaining the optional US "equivalence" award.

Errors and omissions excepted. Tuition fee offers are subject to satisfactory application and acceptance and may be altered or withdrawn at any time.

Calamus Extension College Ltd. reserves the right to refuse to accept modular payments in particular cases or to withdraw the modular payment facility if payments are not made on schedule. In cases of late or missed payment the student may be asked to pay the balance in full if he/she wishes to continue, but is not obliged to make any further payments if he/she notifies us that he/she has left the course.
