MAKING YOUR STUDY AFFORDABLE
Scholarships and bursaries
-
Calamus Extension College Ltd and Calamus International
University are private institutions that do not benefit from any government
funding or grants. At the present time, no full scholarships are available and all students must possess the required
funds for tuition, purchase of textbooks and any other necessary expenses, e.g.
for conducting research. We are unable to reply to requests for free
tuition or free awards.
However, partial bursaries (up to 50% of the tuition fee) are
offered from time to time at the discretion of the College.
Please see tuition for
concessionary rates of fee.
Since the
degrees awarded by CIU are not UK university degrees, courses do not qualify for UK student loan or career
development loan schemes.
Similarly, as CIU is not in the USA, courses do not qualify for GI
Bill funding or federal student loan schemes.
A convenient
way of spreading the cost as well as achieving an extra qualification might be
to enrol for an Advanced or Postgraduate Diploma in your subject instead of a
degree in the first instance. On completion of the Diploma, you can work on your
project or thesis and any extra units required
to complete the degree.
Payment Plans and Discount for Full Payment in Advance
-
If the student
paying full fees pays the total amount (full fee) on enrolment, he or
she will be exempted from the graduatio fee, saving up to GBP 300 / US $ 600 per
degree. This offer is not applicable in
conjunction with any other offer or discount.
-
Modular payment is normally possible but is not available for
all countries or courses.
Credit cards
-
We can accept payments by credit card on-line via
PayPal - now you do not need to have a PayPal account to pay by this
method (subject to PayPal transaction limits and security
procedures). Modular payments can also be set up via PayPal.
This payment method may not be available for certain countries, and
we reserve the right not to accept PayPal payments. Please do not
send any money until you are accepted and until you receive a PayPal
payment request from us.
Lower fees for honorary degrees
- We have lowered our fees for honorary degrees. Since these
awards are made on the basis of previous accomplishments, no payment
plans are available. Honorary degrees are often sought by people who
are devoted to voluntary, religious or charitable activities or who
have retired from their careers. Our lower fees will make it easier
for such persons to receive an honorary award.
Group study
- If you are a group of friends or colleagues and you all want to
study the same programme with us, we can arrange for a substantial
group discount.
Educational tax deductions
-
The UK, USA
and many other countries will normally permit setting aside the cost of educational
expenses against income tax for self-employed professionals or those using their
degree for career development. This can significantly reduce the cost of your
degree. For further guidance consult your accountant or local income tax office.
Employers or company directors: your company can pay for staff training and
development as a legitimate business expense. We cannot give financial or
taxation advice
and you should check with your tax advisor or accountant for the correct position regarding your
circumstances.
Applying from outside the UK/EU
-
We have to charge 17.5% VAT on all fees for residents
of the UK and EU, since private adult education is subject to Value
Added Tax. If you are from outside the UK or EU, and are in the UK
temporarily, you can save if you apply and send the fees from outside
the EU. If you are about to come to the EU or UK shortly, enrol
with Calamus and pay the full fees before you arrive in the UK or EU,
and then you will not have to pay VAT.
