It also provides courses leading to the overseas distance degree awards of Calamus International University (see below).

Calamus International University - an overseas distance learning university founded in 2001 in British West Indies

Calamus International University is a private, campus-free distance university that was founded in 2001 in the British West Indies. CIU was first established in the Turks and Caicos Islands but in recent years has been registered in the Republic of Vanuatu.  CIU offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in various fields and all CIU distance learning programmes are co-ordinated via Calamus Extension College Ltd., London, which handles admissions formalities.

Adjunct faculty of CIU are based in various countries and are available to students via email. Most courses use carefully selected textbooks and student assignments may be submitted by email. Students can participate in CIU study from almost any location without attendance requirements. The typical programme duration is 18 to 24 months. Bachelor's applicants are normally required to have at least 50% prior credit from previous education, experience and/or professional qualifications, though advice will be given to those lacking this requirement.

The original mission of Calamus International University was to provide affordable and flexible distance learning degrees for professionals such as counsellors, psychotherapists and complementary therapists and for students of holistic, metaphysical and spiritual fields, similar to programmes being offered by certain American distance universities, but with more flexibility and choice of course content. The scope of CIU education has expanded to offer programmes in a wider range of disciplines, especially for research leading to PhD. Now in its 10th year of operation, CIU continues to provide a unique range of programmes appealing to independent-minded students in all continents.

CIU degrees are not government-accredited and are not UK, EU or US degrees. They are not intended to be equivalent to UK degrees. CIU is fully accredited by the International Association of Distance Learning and CIU graduates are recommended to Apostille agencies in the USA and UK for international verification of their qualifications. Doctorates do not lead to licences to practise in the UK or elsewhere if such licenses are necessary - they are professional development and research programmes for existing practitioners.
